Feathers In the Wind

When Dr. Edward Arenson took up birding during pediatrics training, he had no idea where it would lead. When he began writing down his experiences, he hoped the process would offer a greater understanding of his passion for birding and, in due course, himself. His “wild goose chases” to seek new birds was an adventurous respite from the challenging routines of a neuro-oncologist.

The testimony of his many and diverse experiences as a birder “of limited skill but high motivation” serves as an autobiography of sorts, representing a counterpoint to a life as physician, husband, and parent.

Even if you aren’t a birder, you will love this book! Dr. Arenson takes us on his adventures completing his “life list” of 800 birds—with humor, drama, art, photos, and poetry—that illuminate the sheer awe of chasing down birds (and interesting characters!) all across North America!
