Robert L. Stahl, M.D.

is a retired hematologist-oncologist and palliative care physician who practiced thirty years in Atlanta, GA, including more than a decade as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University. From 2003-21 he volunteered as Director of the James Fitzgerald Legacy at the Monhegan Museum of Art and History, ME, overseeing the development of the artist’s Catalogue RaisonnĂ©, and is the author of the two-volume Selections From the Catalogue RaisonnĂ©. In 2009 he coordinated the restoration of Monhegan’s 1850 lighthouse, for which he received the 2010 Maine Historic Preservation Honor Award. The son of German Jewish immigrants who fled the Holocaust in 1938, he is first generation American-born, and divides his year between Portland and Monhegan Island, Maine.
